Anticipating Regrets, ADHD, and Fatherhood: Josh Hatcher’sConversation on The Journey of a Christian Dad PodcastJosh Hatcher on the Journey of a Christian Dad Podcast
I recently had the privilege of joining Dan Luigs on The Journey of a Christian Dad Podcast to discuss fatherhood, faith, and the challenges men face as spiritual leaders of their families.
In this powerful conversation, we dove into topics like anticipating future regrets, managing ADHD, and strengthening family relationships.
Here’s a breakdown of what we talked about and why this episode is a must-listen for every Christian dad.
Are Your Actions Creating Future Regrets?
As fathers, the decisions we make today don’t just affect us—they shape the lives of our children and families. On the podcast, I shared how imagining my future regrets has helped me change my thoughts, actions, and responses in the present. This practice has been a game-changer for how I parent and lead my family.
Dan and I explored questions that every dad should ask themselves:
- Are my actions today creating regrets I’ll carry tomorrow?
- How can I better respond to my wife and kids, even when I’m angry or triggered?
Being a father means striving to do better, even when we fall short. It’s not about perfection but growth.
Managing ADHD Without Medication
One of the most personal parts of our conversation was my journey with ADHD. I first discovered I had ADHD when my child was diagnosed—and it turned out my wife has ADHD as well. This realization reshaped how we parent and approach family life.
I also shared my experience with ADHD medication, particularly Adderall. While it helped me focus, it ultimately caused a heart attack—a life-altering moment that forced me to rethink my approach.
Now, I manage my ADHD without medication, relying on mindfulness, structure, and intentionality. If you or someone in your family has ADHD, you’ll find practical insights in this episode about navigating its challenges in a healthy, faith-driven way.
