Who is Josh Holyfield
Josh Holyfield is a man with a remarkable journey that encompasses service, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to empowering others. He is an Army Veteran with over 15 years of experience in deploying and supporting the US Army and Special Operations. His journey into the world of fitness and well-being began in 2005 when he embarked on a weightlifting journey. Simultaneously, he started studying exercise science and nutrition as a personal hobby.
Fitness became more than just a hobby for Josh; it became a lifeline. He used it as a powerful tool to overcome the mental and emotional challenges of serving in the military during combat deployments and, eventually, transitioning into civilian life.
For over a decade after his military service, Josh worked as a federal contractor and federal employee, serving global Special Operations Forces (SOF) operations. In 2019, he took a monumental step and initiated “The Josh Holyfield Project.” Since its inception, this project has impacted the lives of over 40,000 men, equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to transform both their bodies and minds. What sets Josh apart is his approach, which focuses on creating sustainable habits rather than short-term results.
In early 2021, Josh made a bold decision to walk away from his secure federal position, fully dedicating himself to helping men all over the world by offering programming and coaching designed to unleash their full potential.
But Josh’s journey doesn’t stop there. Since 2017, he has achieved significant success by building and scaling two 7-figure online businesses. Furthermore, he works privately with entrepreneurs and advertisers to assist in building and scaling e-commerce and service-based businesses.

In this episode of TESTICULAR FORTITUDE on the Manlihood ManCast, We’ll learn about Galvarino – A Mapuche Warrior who lost his hands as punishment from the Spanish Conquistadors. You might remember the movie “Edward Scissorhands” – and that story about a family trying to help a boy with scissors on his fingers feel normal and accepted is quite absurd, it’s clearly fiction, and no earthly good to anyone.
What if I told you that there is a story of a warrior with swords for hands that fought bravely against a conquering force for freedom?
In the 1500’s, the Mapuche Tribes lived in Chile and Argentina. The Spanish Conquistadors were doing what Spanish Conquistadors did, expanding the power of the Spanish Empire, conquering as much land as they could, raping, murdering and stealing the people and the land in South America.
The Mapuche united to fight against spanish governor Carcia Hurtado De Mendoza, and their native weaponry and tactics were no match for the firepower and strength of the Spaniards.
At the of Lagunillas, more than 150 warriors were captured. The invaders decided the best way to send a message to the tribes people that they needed to submit to the rule of Spain was to chop off their right hands and noses of some of these warriors. Several tribal leaders, and a man they called Galvarino were ordered to lose both hands.
Galvarino lost both hands on the chopping block without flinching.
The prisoners of war were supposed to cause the natives to shrink in fear and trembling, keeping any future rebellions at bay. But the spaniards underestimate the Mapuche.
Galvarino presented his wounds before his native general, and his cries for justice fueled an uprising. He was placed in command of a squadron of fighters.
Knives were fashioned to fit Galvarino’s mutilated wrists, and he then essentially became a fighter with knives for hands. Some historians described the appendages as large as lances.
He led his troop of fighters alongside Mapuche general Caupolican through several battles, and at the Battle of Millarapue, he fought against the very spaniard who had previously bested him and ordered his mutilation.
Spanish historian Jerónimo de Vivar wrote in Crónica:
He came commanding as a sergeant and animating his men this way: “Ea, my brothers, see that you all fight very well, you do not want be as I am without hands, so that you will not be able to work nor to eat, if you do not give it to them!” And he raised those arms on high, showing them to cause them to fight with more spirit and saying to them: “Those that you are going to fight with cut them, and also will do to whichever of you they take, and nobody is allowed to flee but to die, because you die defending your mother country.” He moved ahead of the squadron a distance, and said with a loud voice that he would die first and though he no longer had hands, that he would do what he could with his teeth.
Pedro Mariño de Lobera chronicled the words of Galvirno saying,
“My Brothers, why have you stopped attacking these Christians, seeing the manifest damage that from the day which they entered our kingdom until today they have done and are doing? And they still will do to you what you see that they have done and they are doing? And still they will do to you what you see that they have done to me, cut your hands off, if you are not diligent in making the most of wreaking destruction on these so injurious people for us and or our children and women.”
The handless warrior faced off against the second in command of the spanish forces at the battle, and dispatched him without prejudice.
The Mapuche did not succeed in the battle, and 3,000 native fighters lost their lives.
Galvarino was captured, and ordered to be executed. Some said he was thrown to the dogs, others report he was hanged.
Galvarino’s resilience, determination, courage, and resistance against brutal oppressors is why he is featured today as a man with Testicular Fortitude.

In today’s episode, we’re delving into a thought-provoking Reddit post that shines a light on a significant challenge concerning men’s mental health. About a month ago, Reddit user Venusemerald2 posted a thread on the r/AskMen subreddit titled “Im worried about men’s mental health. Men, who do you confide in 100%?” The post not only sparked a fascinating discussion but also raised essential questions about men’s emotional well-being and their struggles when seeking support.
The post’s initial inspiration came from a comment in another thread, suggesting that women don’t care about men’s feelings. Our host, Josh Hatcher shares his insights on the perception of men’s emotional expression and how it impacts their willingness to open up. We explore the question posed in the post: Who do men confide in 100%? Is it their fathers, brothers, friends, or someone else entirely?
Reddit Responses
Venusemerald2’s post generated an unexpected influx of responses, sparking a robust discussion within the Reddit community. Some of the most compelling and insightful comments from the thread are highlighted, along with thoughts from our listeners on this important issue.

Welcome to the Manlihood ManCast – The top-notch personal development podcast for men! In this episode, Josh Hatcher turns to some of our previous show guests to ask them “What Does It Take To Be A Man?”
In this episode of the Manlihood ManCast, host Josh Hatcher dives deep into the pivotal moments in his life, driven by a powerful statement that initially offended him but eventually changed his perspective forever. Join us on this journey of self-discovery and the realization that the choices we make shape our reality.
Josh begins by recounting a financial counseling session he had during a challenging period in his life. The financial counselor uttered a statement that initially offended him deeply: “You are where you are because of the choices you’ve made.” At the time, Josh felt victimized by external circumstances and didn’t want to accept that he played a role in his predicament.
As he reflects on this encounter, Josh delves into the choices he and his wife made early in their marriage, including starting a family at a young age and moving back to his hometown. These choices, while meaningful, came with their own set of challenges and financial strains. The financial counselor’s words echoed in his mind, forcing him to confront the reality of his decisions.
Josh emphasizes that life doesn’t always offer immediate rewards for good choices. Sometimes, good choices involve long-term investments, and their positive outcomes may take time to materialize. Additionally, he acknowledges that even good choices can have unexpected consequences, but it’s crucial to accept them and adapt.
The concept of karma, where good choices equate to good outcomes, is challenged, as Josh argues that life is far more intricate than a straightforward equation. He underscores the need for men to take responsibility for their choices and the consequences they bring. Instead of blaming external factors or individuals, men should embrace their power to determine their feelings, reactions, behaviors, and performance in life.
Josh concludes the episode with his signature sign-off, “I love you, I’m proud of you, and I’ll see you next time.” He encourages listeners to recognize their sovereignty in the world and to make choices that align with the men they want to become.
Join us for this thought-provoking episode and explore the profound impact of choices and consequences on your journey towards becoming a better man.
